Scarlett Johansson: biography and career

Scarlett Ingrid Johansson was born in Manhattan, New York on November 22, 1984. Even though a native New Yorker, Scarlett has a European background: her father is Danish, and her mother is Polish. Ever since she was a child, Scarlett had been fascinated by cinema and the beautiful actresses of days gone by.
Scarlett began acting during childhood, after her mother started taking her to auditions. She made her film debut at nine years old, as John Ritter's daughter in the 1994 fantasy comedy North. Her first screen appearances followed in the mid-1990s productions of North, Just Cause, If Lucy Fell and Fall. Scarlett first gained serious recognition as Manny in Manny & Lo (1996). Scarlett made her breakthrough in Hollywood in Robert Redford’s The Horse Whisperer in 1998, where she played the troubled Grace. The film itself may not only have gotten positive reviews but Scarlett’s performance was praised. In 2002 Scarlett shot three films: The Perfect Score in Vancouver, Lost In Translation in Tokyo and Girl with a Pearl Earring in Luxembourg. In the midst of the 2003/04 awards season and success of her films, Scarlett traveled to Italy to shoot A Good Woman. Scarlett started work on The Island in October 2004, the sci-fi thriller directed by Michael Bay, co-starring Ewan McGregor. In early 2005, Scarlett flew to Bulgaria to work on The Black Dahlia in April. In 2008, she starred in The Other Boleyn Girl, opposite Natalie Portman and Eric Bana, a film which garnered mixed reviews. She filmed her third Woody Allen film, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, in Spain, appearing opposite Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz. The film was one of Allen's most profitable and appeared on many critics' top ten lists of the best films of 2008. In March 2009, Johansson signed on to play Natasha Romanoff in Iron Man 2 after a scheduling conflict forced Emily Blunt to drop out of the part. Scarlett was cast as Black Widow in the new Marvel action movie The Avengers.
She started dating Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds in 2007. On December 14, 2010, Reynolds and Johansson announced that they had separated. The divorce was finalized on July 1, 2011. On September 14, 2011, the FBI announced it was investigating the alleged hacking of Johansson's cell phone and the dissemination of nude photographs. Scarlett has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on May 2, 2012 at 11:30 at 6931 Hollywood Blvd., in front of Madame Tussauds Hollywood wax museum.
