| Kimberly Alexis Bledel was born on September 16th, 1981, to Nanette and Martin Bledel. Her place of birth was Houston, Texas. Alexis’ first language was Spanish as a child because her mother was from Mexico and her father was from Argentina. Bledel's mother encouraged her to try community theater when she was a child to overcome her shyness;Bledel appeared in local productions of OurTown and The Wizard of Oz. She was scouted at a local shopping mall and given work as a fashion model. One day when she was in the mall with her mother, Page Parkes, a modeling agent discovered her. Page turned her into a model. She began her modeling career while still in high school, traveling all over to locations like Tokyo, Milan, New York and Los Angeles. She applied to NYU after high school, and later on decided that she wanted to try something different; she graduated from Page Parkes Center of Modeling and Acting. Bledel made her TV debut on The WB series Gilmore Girls in 2000. She portrayed Rory Gilmore, the daughter of single mother Lorelai Gilmore. Alexis landed many other roles in films, such as Bride and Prejudice, Tuck Everlasting, and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
When she's not working, Bledel enjoys writing, reading, shooting photography, going to the movies and spending time with her family.
In an appearance on Late Show with David Letterman on May 25, 2007 she revealed that she plays soccer recreationally, on a team called "The Hustlers". |
